Many programs that were written for Windows XP will not run in Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows Vista. This is unfortunately true of ClientTouch as well. ClientTouch version 3.x will not run in Windows Vista.

To develop a version of ClientTouch that runs in Windows Vista would require a rewrite of ClientTouch. Social Work Software has decided not to rewrite ClientTouch for Vista.

You might be able to run ClientTouch in Windows Vista using a technique called virtualization. In part to allow programs that ran in older operating systems to run under Vista, Microsoft has released a free program called Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. This program allows a “virtual PC” to be set up under Vista, with the virtual PC running Windows XP. ClientTouch can then be loaded onto the virtual PC. Provided below is a screen shot of ClientTouch running on a virtual PC under Windows Vista.

Whether or not this approach will work in your situation depends upon a number of technical factors. You should work with your Information Technology expert if you wish to explore this approach.
